Taking the L: Lessons in Leadership
Uncharitable presents Taking the L
Taking the L is a series of events exploring anti-racist leadership with Martha Awojobi (CEO and Founder of JMB and Uncharitable) and Seyi Akiwowo (Global Tech Advisor and Founder of Glitch), produced by Cam St-Omer Donaldson (Consultant and Head of Membership at Fundraising Everywhere). Expect raw honesty, belly laughs and radically reimagined approaches to leadership.
Lessons in Leadership
Lessons in leadership is the first in a series of Uncharitable events exploring anti-racist leadership. Here Seyi and Martha will recount the hardest lessons they have learned founding and leading organisations with anti-oppressive practice at their heart. The wake-up calls that knocked them sideways, the mistakes they’ve had to take accountability for, and the creative strategies that they have employed to navigate sometimes treacherous waters.
From soothing your inner child, to healing from burnout. From finding the courage to facing the white supremacist within, to letting go of your rescuer mentality and establishing boundaries - we are going to talk about it all!
Taking the L will trace Martha and Seyi’s journeys as unprepared yet unapologetic leaders who chose to redefine what leadership can look like when care, accountability and joy are prioritised.
They are still figuring it out and still making mistakes, but they are choosing to show up and put in the work to align their leadership with their vision for a loving and liberated future.
This event is for anyone who has founded (or wants to) an organisation, leads teams and wants to develop a leadership practice that prioritises compassion, solidarity, and realness. We hope that Black women, Black queer and gender expansive people in particular see their experiences reflected in these conversations and find connection and community - but all are welcome!
We go live on Zoom on 28th May at 5.30pm.
We will have captions and ticket holders will have access to the recording for three months following the event.
Take the L with us, and let’s transform what leadership looks like.
