What We Do

Anti-racism is not linear. It is not a product. There is no neatly packaged formula you can follow to become ‘an anti-racist organisation.' Anti-racist practice is one of continual learning, reflection and action.

More often than not we see leaders trying to create anti-racism strategies without doing the necessary learning or reflecting about their relationship to power. Most of these leaders do not even understand what racism is. This is why we focus on supporting organisation to do the the critical learning and reflection needed to engage in meaningful anti-racism work.

Anti-Racism training and consultancy

JMB anti-racism training is uncomfortable and confronting. And it should be. No one should be expecting dismantling over 400 years of violent oppression to be easy. Anti-racist work requires courage, creativity, curiosity and joy and we use these values to guide us through the challenging conversations that happen in our spaces.

Our training and workshops focus on the critical learning and reflection needed to build meaningful anti-racist practice into everyone’s work, whether that is in fundraising, policy, services or finance. We look at the history of the construction of race, the invention of whiteness, how to identify and dismantle different structures of racism at work, why defensiveness happens and how to counter it, and much more. Our training is completely bespoke, we will work with your organisation to build a training session that meets the needs of your staff.

We offer consultancy services for organisations who need support in their anti-racism work. Whether that is guidance, challenge, or a sounding board while you navigate complex dynamics, we will work with you to approach this work with integrity and joy.

Events

We are serious about radical learning. We know that anti-racism that is not grounded in the history of imperialism and colonisation is not going to be effective. From Uncharitable Conference (formerly #BAMEOnline), Scholar and YouTube to our anti-racist days of learning, we engage with the history of race and explore how this legacy is embedded in the structures and frameworks that we are operating in today.

Our days of anti-racist learning are unique, we will curate sessions with guest speakers that shine a light on your sector’s history with racism and offer expert guidance on how to dismantle racism within your organisation and sector.
